Labrador Retriever Training Baseball Thunder 100
June 20th, 2010 by baseball
www.sitmeanssit.com This dog training video shows some retriever drills of using the Thunder 100 retriever launcher with simulated shotgun sound on a baseball diamond. This launcher has advantages in using the sound and throwing your marks for better placement a long with of course the ability to launch them as well. The bases are used for target markers in both getting the dog to run out straight, or to give the dog a visual picture on come in whistles with a hand signal. In this video, the dog is released with a bumper in his mouth, and then he exchanges bumpers so that piles do not necessarily have to be used, and because practicing with a bumper in his mouth makes for more concentration in the dog hitting his targets and taking casts. @fredhassen I do like the baseball diamond approach so this is what I’ll do: dog sitting at home, toss the bumpers out over the bases, send the dog after each, one at a time and in the order you decide. That should help them with lining, control and focus. Thank you for the good ideas - keep ‘em coming.

@RenoZemrak I have a new and different training video every single day that I record so I’m sure there is something he may like.

@catinmt Haven’t seen that as a problem. Also a dog does not go off looking for bumpers instead of birds either which would be the same type of argument.

I have hunting retrievers and like to train them during the off season to keep them sharp and focused. For this video, I wonder about training in the behavior that it is OK to drop a bird to pick up another one. In the field, that would result in the possible loss of the first bird. But I can see the benefit for non-hunting dogs.
